      General Choi woonsan (1885-1945)
      Aliases: Manik (萬益), Munmu (文武), Goryeo (高麗), Myeonggil (明吉), Pung (豊), Bin (斌), and Bok (福)
      • 1885
        • -Born in Gukjaga, Yeongil County, Gilim Province as the second son of Dotae Choi Woo-sam and Lee of Jeonju Lee Clan. He is known as Myeong-gil(明吉).
          studied at Seodang, became fluent in Chinese, and practiced martial arts with a master from an early age
      • 1907
        • -Married Kim Seong-nyeo who was the daughter of an independence activist.
          Served as a military training officer in the Chinese Army where he was known as Choi Pung (崔豊).
          Worked as a chief clerk during the land survey and owned vast tracts of land including Bongodong, Domun, Seokhyun, Seodaepa, Siblipyung, and Yangsucheonja in Wangcheong.

        • -Moved from Yeongil to Bongodong with his family. Built a village of in Bongodong.
      • 1912
        • -Resigned from the Chinese army and took soldiers from the Chinese army to create a private army unit with about 100 soldiers in Bongodong.
          Engaged in various economic activities, including running businesses such as soybean oil factories, noodle factories, soap factories, and match factories, as well as large-scale ranch, exporting grains and cattle to the Russian army.

        • -Converted the private army into the independence army, the “Dodokbu”.
          Founded the Bongodong Military Academy to train independence fighters.
          Built three large barracks and military training grounds to train the independence army as the number of patriotic young people who came to Bongodong continued to grow.
          Built a massive (about 3,000 pyeong) earthen fortification with a thickness of 1meter and installed cannons at the four corners.

        • -Led the Declaration of Independence in North Gando
          led the Declaration of Independence in Baecho-gu on March 26th and the Declaration of Independence in Yangsu-cheonja on May 18th
        • -Established the first army of the Republic of Korea, the "Daehan –Gunmudodokbu" in the line of the establishment of the Provisional Government in Shanghai.
        • -Co-founded the "Daehan Bukrogunjeongseo" with Seo-il in Seodaepa providing military funds including food.
      • 1920
        • -Sold large-scale land for the purchase of Czech weapons in January.
        • -Established a short-term independent army training institution, the Yeonseong Military Academy, in Sipripyeong.
          Conducted Domestic Invasions attacking the Japanese military border posts and military police offices from January to May.
          Eestablished the independent united army, the “Daehan Bukrodokgunbu”, on May 19th.
        • -Won the great victory of the Bongodong Independence War on June 7th.
        • - Won the great victory of the Cheongsanri Independence War in October.
      • 1921
        • -Avoided the Massacre of Svobodny(自由市慘變) with his military fund-raising unit.
      • 1922
        • -Attended the Moscow Far Eastern Peoples' Conference with General Choi Jin-dong.
      • 1924
        • -Purchased land in Samdong and established for new independent army base.

        • - Arrested for attacking the Japanese police station and raising military funds.
      • 1925
        • -Imprisoned in prison pending an appeal after being sentenced to 8 years at the Chongjin District Court. (Reported by th newspapers of Chosun, Donga, and Maeil on April 10, 1925).
      • 1930
        • -Fought in battles such as the Domandaean Battle, Ansanri Battle, and Uusuri River Battle in 1930s.
          Supported military spending consistently in the 1930s.
      • 1933
        • -Won the Battle of Daejeonjaryeong.
      • 1937
        • -Imprisoned of being behind the Battle of Bocheonbo not related in.
      • 1939
        • -Imprisoned for 10 months for refusing to change his name to a Japanese name and raising funds for the Independence Army."
      • 1940
        • -Operated secretly an independence army disguised as a farmer in the forested area of Daehwanggu.
      • 1945
        • -Died on July 5 due to aftereffects of torture.
      • 1977
        • -Awarded the Presidential Commendation of the Order of Merit for National Foundation.
      • 1990
        • -Awarded National Medal of the Order of Merit for National Foundation.
      • 2016
        • -Established General Choi Woonsan Commemorative Association on July 4th.
